Help and Support

Write in the Head offers creative writing opportunities for survivors of strokes and Acquired Brain Injuries.  While we work with qualified doctors, healthcare praticioners, writing for wellbeing practitioners and speech and language therapists, we do not offer medical advice, and our programme of exercises is not a substitute for professional medical care.  We are unable to reply to individuals who contact us with specific health-related queries.

If you are concerned about your health or wellbeing, or the health and wellbeing of a friend or family member, there are a number of organisations who offer support:

  • Your family doctor is a good first point of contact for any health or wellbeing concerns.
  • The Samaritans offer a 24-hour helpline in the UK for anyone in crisis, who needs immediate help and support.  They can be contacted for free on 116 123.  You can also email them, or visit a local branch for help.
  • The Stroke Association has a range of online resources for stroke survivors and their carers.  They operate a telephone helpline in the UK, which is available on weekdays.  The Stroke Association can also put you in touch with local support groups in your area. Call 0303 3033 100 or email helpline@stroke.org.uk
  • Headway – The Brain Injury Association offer support for survivors of head injuries and their carers.  They operate a telephone helpline in the UK, which is available on weekdays.  Headway can also put you in touch with local support groups in your area.
